Making Great Knives Ain’t Easy

At Huntsman Knife Co., our knives are Made The Old Way, that means doing the best processes possible and never skipping steps. Let me walk you through our 100% made in the USA production.

  1. DESIGN

    1. The first step in making a knife. Every blade at Huntsman Knife Co. is designed and tested by me, Hunter Martin. We make all of our knives to be light, functional, tough, and performance oriented. We use only the best materials, heat treat, and production methods.

  2. SOURCING

    1. We only use the best materials in the world, and if possible, we use materials made right here in the USA. With the demise of Crucible, most high quality knife steels are made in Europe. We only source the highest quality materials, from blade steel, to handle material, to kydex, to screws and fasteners, every single component of a Huntsman Knife Co. blade is rigorously tested for quality and and performance. With the excpetion of our European made blade steel and our Carbon fiber composites hand made in Poland, every single material and component is made in the USA.

  3. WATER JET

    1. All of our blanks are water jet cut right here in Ohio. Water jet cutting is expensive, but it’s the single best way to produce knives with no heat affected zone.

  4. SURFACE GRINDING

    1. Getting beautiful, precision flats is an art form, and all of our surface grinding is done in Ohio by expert machine operators

  5. CNC MILLING

    1. This is the bulk of knife making. Each and every one of our knives (with the exception of hand ground runs) is CNC milled in Toledo by a mom and pop shop. Our CNC milling is clean, consistent, dialed in, and supports multiple jobs in the greater Toledo area.

  6. HAND GRINDING

    1. Every Huntsman Knife Co. blade is hand ground, assembled, and sharpened by me, Hunter Martin. Hand grinding is a difficult, expensive, and laborious process, but it ensures the best possible fit and finish. Most of our knives require at least 3-4 levels of grit finishing before the production process is complete.

  7. HEAT TREAT

    1. This is the make or break for a performance knife. Every Huntsman Knife Co. blade is custom heat treated at Kowalski HT in Cleveland Ohio. We have worked extensively with Kowalski to perfect the custom heat treat requirement our blades need and they have accommodated us every step of the way. Rest assured, heat treating doesnt get any better. From stress relief, to austenitization, to quench, to cryo, to tempering, Kowalski has every single step methodically dialed.
